Myogenic Differentiation Antigen 1 (MYOD1) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The Myogenic Differentiation Antigen 1 (MYOD1) is a marker of skeletal muscle differentiation. It is a myogenic nuclear regulatory protein that is expressed during embryogenesis, with its expression restricted to myoblasts in developing skeletal muscle tissue. MYOD1 is present in the majority of rhabdomyosarcomas, providing significant utility in the context of this neoplasm and similar conditions where identification of muscle differentiation is necessary.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemistry (IHC) stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Ordering PATHC / Pathology Consultation alongside this test will result in cancellation of the technical component stain. Transport container must have a green 'Attention Pathology' label and a pink 'Immunostain Technical Only' label.
Limitations
This test does not provide pathologist interpretation. Proper interpretation requires a full diagnostic evaluation by a qualified pathologist, considering the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. The age of paraffin sections can impact immunoreactivity, with best practices suggesting sections be cut within 6 weeks of analysis. Environmental factors affecting charged glass slides may alter staining consistency, so appropriate slide storage is critical to prevent variable results.
