Nectarine (Prunus spp) IgE
Use
The Nectarine (Prunus spp) IgE test is used to measure the specific IgE antibodies in the patient's serum against Nectarine allergens. This is important in diagnosing and managing allergic reactions to nectarines, commonly manifesting as oral allergy syndrome among sensitized individuals. The test assists healthcare providers in determining the presence of an allergy and assesses the degree of sensitization which aids in allergy risk stratification.
Special Instructions
Draw blood in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube; spin down and send 0.5 mL of serum refrigerated in a plastic vial. Specimens with lipemia will be rejected.
Limitations
The test is specific to Nectarine (Prunus spp) and may not identify other fruit allergies. Cross-reactivity with other related fruits or pollens may occur. The presence of IgE to a specific allergen indicates sensitization, but clinical correlation with the patient's history and other diagnostic findings is necessary to establish an allergy diagnosis. False positives or negatives due to technical issues or biological variability should be considered.
