Nuts and Grains Panel IgG
Use
The Nuts and Grains Panel IgG test is intended to measure the levels of IgG antibodies specific to a variety of nuts and grains including almond, bean, buckwheat, corn, gluten, lentil, oat, peanut, pecan, rice, rye, sesame seed, soybean, sunflower seed, walnut, and wheat. The presence of IgG antibodies to foods can indicate prior exposure or sensitization to these foods; however, it isn't indicative of an allergy. This test can be used in specific clinical situations for dietary evaluation through elimination and challenge without guaranteeing clinical utility as a standalone diagnostic tool. It should be ordered by healthcare providers aware of its limitations.
Special Instructions
The test must be ordered by a healthcare provider who recognizes the limitations of IgG testing for food allergies. Serum should be collected in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube, processed to obtain 2 mL of serum and stored refrigerated before shipping.
Limitations
This test has not been FDA approved or cleared and should not be used as a sole diagnostic tool for food allergies. The presence of food-specific IgG antibodies should not be taken as conclusive evidence of a food allergy and only represents prior exposure. Reference ranges for food-specific IgG antibodies have not been established, so the clinical significance of the results should be interpreted with caution and in the context of an elimination/challenge dietary evaluation.
