OLIG2 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for distinguishing gliomas from neurocytomas and ependymomas. OLIG2 is a transcription factor involved in oligodendrocyte and motor neuron differentiation. Its expression remains present in mature glial cells and is involved in glioblastoma progression due to its repression of the p53 tumor suppressor pathway.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered alongside PATHC / Pathology Consultation, else the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation; any interpretation needed should be done by a qualified pathologist with consideration of the patient's history and other diagnostic tests. There is a caution regarding paraffin section age which can affect immunoreactivity, and best practice is to use sections cut within 6 weeks.
