Olive-Food, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is used for establishing the diagnosis of an allergy to olive-food by identifying specific allergens responsible for eliciting allergic reactions, including those leading to anaphylactic episodes. It aids in confirming sensitization prior to the beginning of immunotherapy and investigating the specificity of allergic reactions to various allergens, such as insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens. The test for IgE antibodies is not recommended for patients previously treated with immunotherapy when assessing residual clinical sensitivity or when medical management does not rely on identification of allergen specificity.
Special Instructions
If not ordering electronically, complete, print, and send an Allergen Test Request (T236) with the specimen. Contact customer service for test prices and additional information.
Limitations
Testing for IgE antibodies may yield false-positive results in patients with markedly elevated serum IgE levels (greater than 2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding. IgE testing is not useful for determining residual clinical sensitivity in patients previously treated with immunotherapy or when the medical management does not depend upon the identification of allergen specificity.
