Opiates Confirmation, Random, Urine
Use
This test is used for the detection and quantification of various opiates in urine such as codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, noroxycodone, noroxymorphone, norhydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, and naloxone. It helps in confirming drug use and compliance monitoring for patients prescribed these medications.
Special Instructions
For situations requiring chain of custody, a special kit must be used and a different test ordered. This test should be ordered electronically or the appropriate form should be completed and sent with the specimen.
Limitations
This test is specific to opiates structurally similar to morphine and does not detect other opioids such as fentanyl, meperidine, or methadone. External factors such as ingestion of poppy seeds can result in false positives for morphine. The test is not suitable for immediate (STAT) testing, and submitting less than 1 mL may compromise the ability to perform all necessary testing.
