Oregano, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing a diagnosis of an allergy to oregano, identifying allergens responsible for allergic responses and anaphylactic episodes, confirming sensitization prior to immunotherapy, and investigating the specificity of allergic reactions to insect venom allergens, drugs, or chemical allergens. It measures IgE antibodies that indicate an increased likelihood of allergic disease.
Special Instructions
Use this test to confirm sensitization prior to starting immunotherapy. Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful for determining residual clinical sensitivity in patients previously treated with immunotherapy or when medical management does not depend on allergen specificity.
Limitations
Measurable levels of IgE antibodies can be present in individuals with clinically insignificant sensitivity. False-positive results may occur in patients with markedly elevated serum IgE due to nonspecific binding to allergen solid phases.
