Paraneoplastic Pemphigus Antibody, IgG, Serum
Use
Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP), also known as paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorgan syndrome (PAMS), is an autoimmune mucocutaneous blistering disease often indicating an underlying malignancy. It is associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, thymoma, or Castleman disease. This test aids in diagnosing PNP/PAMS in the presence of erosive or lichenoid mucocutaneous disease, supporting the diagnosis through the detection of associated autoantibodies.
Special Instructions
Test results must be interpreted in conjunction with clinical features, histopathologic findings, and results of serum studies like IFA on primate esophagus substrate and ELISA for Dsg1/3 antibodies.
Limitations
The test may not fully exclude paraneoplastic pemphigus/paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorgan syndrome as a diagnosis due to its lack of complete sensitivity. Negative results do not definitively rule out the syndrome, and positive results should be correlated with clinical presentation and additional laboratory studies.
