Parvovirus Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The Parvovirus Immunostain is utilized to identify parvovirus infection, which is associated with clinical conditions such as hydrops fetalis, spontaneous abortions, chronic hemolytic anemia, erythema infectiosum (Fifth disease) in children, and acute arthritis in adults. This immunohistochemical stain aids in the detection of parvovirus in tissue samples, facilitating clinical decision-making and patient management.
Special Instructions
This test provides only the technical performance of the stain and does not include interpretation by a pathologist. Orders for the technical component should not be accompanied by a request for Pathology Consultation (PATHC), as technical component stains will be canceled if PATHC is requested. Ensure proper labeling with the green 'Attention Pathology' and pink 'Immunostain Technical Only' labels on transportation containers.
Limitations
The test does not provide pathologist interpretation; it only includes technical staining. Parvovirus Immunostain is sensitive to the age of cut paraffin sections and the charge state of glass slides, which are vulnerable to environmental conditions. Staining results may be inconsistent if slides are exposed to high humidity, heat, or unsuitable surfaces. Proper specimen handling and storage are critical to avoid diagnostic confusion.
