Pepper Black IgG
Use
The clinical utility of food-specific IgG tests, including Pepper Black IgG, has not been fully established. The presence of food-specific IgG alone cannot be taken as evidence of food allergy, but rather indicates immunologic sensitization by the food allergen in question. Such tests can be used in special clinical situations to select foods for evaluation by diet elimination and challenge in patients who have food-related complaints.
Special Instructions
This test should only be ordered by physicians who recognize the limitations of the test. The test is performed Monday through Friday.
Limitations
Reference ranges have not been established for food-specific IgG tests. The presence of IgG against specific foods does not confirm a food allergy. It should be interpreted with caution and should not replace clinical history and/or other diagnostic tests in the diagnosis of food allergies.
