Peripheral Nerve Pathology Consultation
Use
This test is useful for evaluating diseases of the nerve and disorders that affect nerve function. It provides a comprehensive assessment of nerve tissue to aid in the diagnosis of neuropathological conditions. The consultation includes a review of provided specimens, which may involve a variety of stains and techniques to ensure a detailed analysis.
Special Instructions
Special stains and studies previously performed on the cases should be sent for review with the case materials. The reviewing neuromuscular pathologist will determine the need for additional tests, some of which may require duplication at an additional charge. Ancillary testing is ordered based on necessity as determined by the reviewing pathologist.
Limitations
The interpretation will include an evaluation of the specimen and determination of a diagnosis as part of a formal pathology report. However, testing requested by the referring physician may not be performed if deemed unnecessary by the consulting pathologist. The actual procedures performed will depend on the adequacy of the tissue and the discretion of the reviewing pathologist.
