Phencyclidine (PCP) Confirmation, Chain of Custody, Meconium
Use
This test is used for the detection of in utero drug exposure up to 5 months before birth. The chain of custody is required whenever the results of testing could be used in a court of law. Its purpose is to protect the rights of the individual contributing the specimen by demonstrating that it was always under the control of personnel involved with testing. This control implies that the opportunity for specimen tampering is minimized, ensuring the test results are appropriate for legal proceedings.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The mechanism of drug deposition in meconium is not well understood. Fetal drug exposure during the final 4 to 5 months of pregnancy can be indicated by the presence of drugs in meconium. The test results may have legal ramifications; hence, it is recommended that testing is performed using a chain of custody to ensure suitability for legal proceedings.
