Pineapple IgG
Use
This test measures the IgG antibody levels specific to pineapple (Ananas comosus). The clinical utility of food-specific IgG tests has not been established, and these tests are not recommended for diagnosing food allergies. They are sometimes used in special clinical situations for evaluating dietary response in patients with food-related complaints, guiding diet elimination and challenge processes. It is important to recognize that the presence of food-specific IgG indicates only immunologic sensitization to the food allergen and not an allergy itself.
Special Instructions
This test should only be ordered by physicians who are aware of its limitations. The test methodology used is Enzyme Immunoassay (FEIA). It is not cleared or approved by the FDA and its performance characteristics have been determined by Viracor Eurofins.
Limitations
Reference ranges for food-specific IgG tests are not established, and the clinical utility of these tests has not been validated. These tests should not be used as stand-alone indicators for food allergies as IgG presence only suggests prior exposure to food antigens rather than an allergic reaction.
