Pomegranate (Punica granatum) IgE
Use
This test is used to determine the presence of specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to Pomegranate (Punica granatum) in serum. The presence of IgE antibodies indicates that the patient may have an allergic sensitization to this fruit, which can contribute to allergic reactions upon exposure.
Special Instructions
Blood should be drawn in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube, centrifuged, and 0.5 mL of serum should be sent refrigerated in a plastic vial for testing.
Limitations
The test results should be interpreted in the context of the clinical findings. False positives or negatives can occur and further testing may be required for a conclusive diagnosis. The test will not detect non-IgE mediated reactions to pomegranate or Punica granatum.
