Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PACP) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Prostatic acid phosphatase (PACP) is a cytoplasmic enzyme produced in normal prostatic epithelium and prostatic adenocarcinoma. PACP is a useful adjunct to the immunostain for prostate-specific antigen; if one of these two markers is immunoreactive, a tumor of prostatic origin is likely. The test aids in the identification of normal prostatic epithelium and prostatic adenocarcinoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as they will be canceled if ordered together. Digital images of IHC stains are available only if ordered electronically.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, a full diagnostic evaluation should be ordered separately. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, with stability thresholds varying widely and being antigen-dependent. Best practices include minimizing storage time of positively charged slides and limiting exposure to high humidity and heat.
