PTH Antibody
Use
The PTH Antibody test is used for the detection of antibodies against the parathyroid hormone (PTH). This test is significant for diagnosing conditions related to parathyroid abnormalities, including autoimmune disorders where the body's immune system mistakenly targets its own tissues. Understanding the presence of PTH antibodies helps in evaluating patients with suspected autoimmune hypoparathyroidism and provides insights into the management of such conditions. It can aid in distinguishing between autoimmune and other causes of hypoparathyroidism.
Special Instructions
Blood should be drawn in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube, and then centrifuged. The serum should be sent in a plastic vial. Proper handling and transport of the blood specimen are essential to maintain the integrity of the serum for accurate results.
Limitations
The test is not FDA-cleared or approved and is labeled as an Analyte Specific Reagent (ASR) product, meaning it has been validated pursuant to regulatory standards such as CLIA, but not through the FDA's standard review process. It is used for clinical purposes but may have limitations in terms of analytical specificity and sensitivity for various subtypes of PTH antibodies which could affect diagnosis.
