Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) IgE
Use
The Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) IgE test is used to evaluate and monitor patients for potential allergic responses to quinoa. It is significant in the context of identifying specific food allergies that may contribute to allergic reactions. The test measures specific IgE antibodies to quinoa, helping clinicians to determine the presence and magnitude of an allergic sensitization, facilitating the management of dietary allergens and contributing to the overall management of allergic conditions.
Special Instructions
The test is performed using ImmunoCAP technology which is a form of FEIA (Fluorescent Enzyme Immunoassay). The test requires careful specimen handling and adherence to collection procedures, as incorrect processing might lead to inaccurate results. Ensure the blood is drawn in a plain red-top tube or serum gel tube and send 0.5 mL of serum refrigerated in a plastic vial.
Limitations
Test limitations include potential interference in patients with significant lipemia which can lead to specimen rejection. Interpretation of results should consider clinical history, other laboratory data, and clinical status. False positives or negatives can occur, and IgE presence alone does not necessarily indicate a clinical allergy without correlating with clinical symptoms. The test does not differentiate between past and current sensitizations and cannot predict severity of allergic reactions.
