Raspberry, IgE, Serum
Use
This test helps in establishing the diagnosis of an allergy to raspberry. It identifies the allergen responsible for eliciting symptoms, confirms sensitization before immunotherapy initiation, and investigates allergic reactions specificity to various allergen types. However, IgE antibody testing is not suitable for individuals previously treated with immunotherapy to assess residual sensitivity or those whose medical management does not rely on allergen identification.
Special Instructions
For a listing of allergens available for testing, see Allergens - Immunoglobulin E (IgE) Antibodies document. If not ordering electronically, complete and send an Allergen Test Request form (T236) with the specimen.
Limitations
Some individuals may show measurable levels of IgE antibodies in serum with clinically insignificant sensitivity to allergens. Interpret test results in the clinical context due to possible false-positive results caused by nonspecific binding in patients with markedly elevated serum IgE (>2500 kU/L).
