Red Snapper (Lutjanus spp) IgE
Use
The Red Snapper IgE test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies to Red Snapper (Lutjanus species) in the patient's serum. It is a part of the clinical evaluation for allergic reactions potentially related to fish allergies. Physicians use the test results to aid in the diagnosis of allergic conditions and to guide management strategies, including dietary modifications and allergen avoidance.
Special Instructions
Blood should be drawn into a plain red-top tube or a serum gel tube. After centrifugation, 0.5 mL of serum should be sent refrigerated in a plastic vial for analysis. Ensure that specimen collection and handling adhere to specified requirements to avoid sample rejection.
Limitations
The test measures specific IgE antibodies and cannot diagnose non-IgE mediated allergic reactions. Cross-reactivity among different species within the same category (e.g., fish) might occur, affecting specificity. High levels of total IgE or other interfering antibodies can lead to false positives. The test does not indicate the severity of any allergic reaction, and results should be interpreted alongside clinical history and other diagnostic findings.
