Rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum) IgE
Use
This test is used to measure the level of IgE antibodies in the blood that are specific to Rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum). IgE tests are commonly used to assess allergic responses to specific substances, and the presence of IgE antibodies may indicate an allergic reaction. It provides valuable information for diagnosing and managing allergies related to Rhubarb exposure.
Special Instructions
The test uses an enzyme immunoassay method and requires a serum specimen. It is important to collect the blood sample in a red-top tube as preferable, with a serum gel tube also being acceptable. After collection, the blood should be spun down, and 0.5 mL of serum sent refrigerated in a plastic vial for testing.
Limitations
The test can be affected by lipemia, and such serum samples will be rejected. The method used may not have the same sensitivity and specificity as other allergen-specific IgE tests. Results should be correlated with clinical findings, and a low positive IgE may not clearly indicate allergy without supporting clinical history and symptoms.
