S-100 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test aids in the identification of various neoplasms by detecting S100 protein expression. Such expression is seen in cartilaginous tumors, myoepithelial tumors, Schwann cells and neural tumors, Langerhans cell proliferations, benign and malignant melanocytes, clear cell sarcoma, and some carcinomas, particularly those of the breast. S100 staining occurs in both the nucleus and cytoplasm.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain, without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the technical component stains will be cancelled if ordered together. Appropriate labels should be attached to the transport container as per the kit instructions.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Specimen stability can be affected by environmental factors, and best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Unsuitable slides can result in inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
