Semaphorin 3B (SEMA3B) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Aiding in the diagnosis of semaphorin 3B-associated membranous nephropathy, which is a very rare disease observed mostly in pediatric patients and young adults. SEMA3B-associated membranous nephropathy (MN) is an autoimmune disease of the kidney where antibodies target an antigen in the glomerular basement membrane resulting in kidney damage or failure.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Information on accessing digital images of immunohistochemical (IHC) stains and manual requisition forms can be accessed through Mayo Clinic Laboratories' website.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Stability thresholds vary widely among published literature and are antigen dependent. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. The charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental factors, potentially altering slide staining. Sending unsuitable glass slides may result in inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
