Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 6 (STAT6), Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for aiding in distinguishing solitary fibrous tumors from morphologic mimics. STAT6 is a signal transducer/transcription activator expressed in the cytoplasm of various normal tissues and its aberrant strong nuclear expression is associated with solitary fibrous tumors due to NAB2-STAT6 fusions.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain. It does not provide pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as they will be canceled if ordered together. Transport containers should be labeled with 'Attention Pathology' and 'Immunostain Technical Only' labels. For manual requisition, complete and send the Immunohistochemical (IHC)/In Situ Hybridization (ISH) Stains Request (T763).
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity and stability thresholds vary among published literature and are antigen dependent. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Environmental factors can affect the charge of glass slides, potentially leading to inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
