Smut Corn (Ustilago maydis) IgE
Use
This test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies to Smut Corn (Ustilago maydis). The presence of these antibodies in serum helps to diagnose allergic sensitization to Ustilago maydis, which can manifest in allergic reactions when exposed to this allergen. IgE-mediated allergic reactions can lead to symptoms such as rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma, or anaphylaxis upon contact or inhalation in sensitized individuals.
Special Instructions
The test can be ordered by clinicians to confirm suspected allergy to Smut Corn. It is important to collect the specimen as specified to ensure valid results. Fasting is not required for this test. The test should be coordinated with the Eurofins Viracor laboratory for processing. Ensure that samples are kept in the recommended conditions to meet the stability requirements.
Limitations
The test is not approved by the U.S. FDA and is not to be used as the sole diagnostic measure for Ustilago maydis allergy. False positives/negatives may occur due to cross-reactivity with other allergens or technical variations. It's crucial to interpret the results in the context of the patient's clinical history and other laboratory findings. The accuracy of the test results can be impacted if the specimen handling does not comply with stated procedures.
