SOX10 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
SOX10 (SRY-box transcription factor 10) is a nuclear transcription factor significant in schwannian and melanocytic cell differentiation. It is used as a marker in diagnosing melanocytic and schwannian tumors. SOX10 is expressed in benign melanocytic naevi, melanomas including desmoplastic and spindle cell melanomas, and schwannian-differentiated tumors like malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, Schwannomas, and neurofibromas. It is also expressed in normal tissues such as Schwann cells, melanocytes, and the myoepithelial cells of salivary, bronchial, and mammary glands.
Special Instructions
This test is for the technical performance of the stain only and does not include pathologist interpretation. The stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as they will be canceled. For digital image access, orders need to be placed electronically. Attach specific labels to the transport container as per instructions.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. Age and environmental conditions of glass slides can affect immunoreactivity. Controls should verify appropriate immunoreactivity. It is important that the test is interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history by a qualified pathologist. Stability thresholds vary among publications and are antigen-dependent, with best practices recommending that paraffin sections be cut within 6 weeks prior to testing.
