Synthetic Cannabinoid Metabolites Screen, Expanded, Urine
Use
The Synthetic Cannabinoid Metabolites Screen, Expanded, Urine test is designed to detect the presence of synthetic cannabinoid metabolites in urine samples. Synthetic cannabinoids, often known as 'spice,' 'K2,' or designer drugs, have been associated with severe health effects. This test is useful in clinical settings to evaluate potential intoxication or toxicity, support clinical diagnosis, and facilitate appropriate patient management. It helps in understanding patient drug use and aids healthcare providers in designing suitable interventions or treatment plans for the individuals.
Special Instructions
This test requires the submission of a single urine specimen per order, and specimens cannot be shared between multiple orders. It is important to collect 5 mL of random urine without any preservative and refrigerate the sample in a plastic preservative-free urine container before submission. The test includes a reflex confirmation that may be activated based on the initial screening results.
Limitations
There are known interferences with this test, such as FUBINACA 3,3-dimethylbutanoic acid being potentially affected by the presence of quetiapine. Moreover, like all urine-based tests, this screen is limited by the detection window specific to each synthetic cannabinoid's pharmacokinetics and the individual's metabolic differences. False negatives can occur if the metabolites have been fully excreted or if the sensitivity threshold of the assay does not meet the levels present in the urine.
