T-Cell Leukemia/Lymphoma Protein 1A (TCL1A) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the identification of T-cell leukemia and lymphoma protein overexpression in neoplasms. The TCL-1 proteins augment AKT signal transduction and enhance cell proliferation and survival. TCL-1 overexpression is a result of gene rearrangements present in the majority of T-cell prolymphocytic leukemias. Additionally, TCL-1 is expressed in plasmacytoid monocytes in reactive tissues and the malignant counterpart, blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm. The expression is limited to the B-cell compartment in normal tonsils.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain, and does not include pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the stain will be cancelled when ordered together. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) stains performed as part of the PATHC will be done at the reviewing pathologist's discretion with an additional charge.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, which requires a separate order for PATHC / Pathology Consultation. The age of a cut paraffin section impacts immunoreactivity; hence, paraffin sections are best cut within six weeks. Also, the charge of glass slides can be affected by environmental conditions, impacting slide staining.
