Targeted Benzodiazepine Screen, Random, Urine
Use
Benzodiazepines are used to treat a range of disorders, from anxiety to seizures, and pain management. They carry a high risk for abuse and diversion, necessitating compliance monitoring through urine drug tests. Traditional benzodiazepine immunoassays often lack cross-reactivity with all benzodiazepines, which can result in negative screens for patients taking clonazepam or lorazepam despite compliance. This targeted screen offers a more sensitive and specific test to detect compliance with common benzodiazepines by identifying both the parent drug and its metabolites in urine.
Special Instructions
In most cases, no additional testing is needed after the qualitative targeted benzodiazepine test if the results align with the patient's prescribed medications. If unexpected results are found, confirmatory testing is available at an additional charge.
Limitations
This test is not intended for employment-related testing. The absence of expected benzodiazepines or their metabolites could indicate noncompliance, inappropriate timing of specimen collection related to drug administration, poor drug absorption, diluted or adulterated urine, or limitations of testing. There may be a need to contact the laboratory for specific drug quantification within two weeks if concentrations are required.
