Tarragon, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing the diagnosis of an allergy to tarragon by identifying specific IgE antibodies. The test helps define the allergen responsible for eliciting allergic signs and symptoms, responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes. It is useful to confirm sensitization prior to immunotherapy or investigating allergic reactions to insect venom, drugs, or chemical allergens.
Special Instructions
If not ordering electronically, complete and send an Allergen Test Request form (T236) with the specimen. Testing for IgE antibodies is not useful in patients previously treated with immunotherapy or in cases where medical management does not depend on allergen identification.
Limitations
False-positive results for IgE antibodies may occur in patients with very high serum IgE (>2500 kU/L) due to nonspecific binding. Some individuals with clinically insignificant sensitivity may have measurable IgE, and test results should be interpreted in the clinical context.

Causes for Rejection
Gross hemolysis and gross lipemia are acceptable conditions.
