Terminal Deoxynucleotidyl Transferase (TdT) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for the classification of leukemias or lymphomas. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) is a nuclear enzyme involved in the addition of nucleotides to the termini of DNA strands. It is expressed in cortical thymocytes and immature hematopoietic stem cells, making it useful in diagnosing lymphoblastic lymphoma or leukemia and can also be expressed in acute myeloid leukemias.
Special Instructions
This test only includes the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with pathology consultation (PATHC). If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Interpretations should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely and are antigen dependent. Only stained slides will be verified for immunoreactivity.
