Thyroid Autoantibodies Profile, Serum
Use
The Thyroid Autoantibodies Profile is used as an adjunct in the diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto disease, postpartum thyroiditis, neonatal hypothyroidism, and Graves disease. It helps differentiate thyroid autoimmune disorders from nonautoimmune goiter or hypothyroidism and serves as a diagnostic tool in deciding whether to treat a patient with subclinical hypothyroidism.
Special Instructions
Patients should not take multivitamins or dietary supplements containing biotin (vitamin B7) for 12 hours before specimen collection. This is important to ensure the accuracy of the assay results.
Limitations
Antithyroglobulin (anti-Tg) and antithyroperoxidase (anti-TPO) values determined by different methodologies might vary significantly and cannot be directly compared. In rare cases, some individuals can develop antibodies to mouse or other animal antibodies, which may cause interference in some immunoassays.
