Thyroid Transcription Factor (8G7G3/1) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF1) is a nuclear protein expressed in thyroid follicular cells, type II pneumocytes, and a subset of bronchial cells. This immunostain is often included in a panel to identify the primary site for carcinomas of unknown origin due to its relative specificity for thyroid or lung origin cells.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; pathologist interpretation is not included. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the technical component stains will be canceled if ordered together.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and the charge of glass slides can influence staining. Best practices include minimizing slide storage time, limiting exposure to high humidity and heat, and reducing exposure to plastics. Cut sections should preferably be used within 6 weeks.
