Thyroid Transcription Factor (SPT24) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF1) is a nuclear protein expressed in thyroid follicular cells, type II pneumocytes, and a subset of bronchial cells. It is used to identify the primary site for carcinomas of unknown origin by specifically marking cells of thyroid or lung origin. This test is particularly useful in a panel of immunostains for identifying the primary site of carcinomas that originate from the thyroid or lung.
Special Instructions
This test includes only technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the technical component stains will be canceled if done so.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance of the stain. The interpretation should be done within the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds can vary widely among published literature.
