Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus spp) IgE
Use
The Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus spp) IgE test is used to detect the presence of specific IgE antibodies to the allergenic proteins found in the Tree of Heaven plant. Allergy testing is essential for diagnosing allergic conditions and helps guide treatment strategies including avoidance recommendations and personalized immunotherapy. Elevated levels of specific IgE indicate sensitization to this allergen, which may correlate with clinical symptoms such as rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma, or urticaria upon exposure.
Special Instructions
This test requires proper specimen collection and handling to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. The preferred specimen type is serum collected in a red-top tube, but serum gel tubes are also acceptable. Ensure to spin down and refrigerate the serum in a plastic vial for transport.
Limitations
Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other allergy tests. The presence of IgE antibodies signifies sensitization but does not always correlate with severity of allergic reactions. False positives or negatives may occur due to cross-reactivity with other allergens or technical limitations of the enzyme immunoassay method, including improper sample handling or storage, which could lead to erroneous results.
