Whitefish IgE
Use
The Whitefish IgE test is used to quantitatively measure specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to whitefish in human serum. This testing is crucial for diagnosing allergic reactions to whitefish, helping clinicians ascertain if a patient's allergic symptoms are possibly due to ingestion or contact with whitefish. It forms part of the allergy evaluation process, particularly in cases where food allergies are suspected.
Special Instructions
For optimal testing, ensure that the specimen is collected in the proper container and submitted as instructed. It is important to closely follow specimen handling and temperature guidelines to maintain integrity.
Limitations
The test might show decreased sensitivity if the specimen is not handled according to the specified temperature conditions. Lipemic specimens can be rejected as they may interfere with the assay. Negative results do not necessarily rule out an IgE-mediated allergy since allergic reactions can be due to different mechanisms not related to IgE. Cross-reactivity with other fish species proteins is also a possibility.
