Wilms Tumor (WT-1) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for aiding in the identification of Wilms tumor. Wilms tumor-1 (WT-1) protein acts as a tumor suppressor gene involved in the differentiation of tissues such as the mesothelium and the urogenital system. This test helps in distinguishing ovarian from uterine serous carcinoma and between serous and endometrioid ovarian carcinoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with Pathology Consultation (PATHC), as these will be canceled if ordered together. The test is available to order for NY State clients.
Limitations
The test does not include a pathologist interpretation; it only provides the technical performance of the stain. Interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history by a qualified pathologist. Factors such as the age of the paraffin section and the charge of glass slides can affect immunostaining results. Sections should be cut within 6 weeks, and slides should minimize exposure to humidity and heat.
