Yogurt (Lactobacillus bulgaricus) IgE
Use
This test measures the IgE antibodies specific to Yogurt, particularly Lactobacillus bulgaricus, in the blood. Elevated levels of IgE antibodies are often associated with allergic reactions. Testing for specific IgE helps in diagnosing allergies to yogurt. This test is vital for patients suspected of having dietary allergies that could manifest as various allergic symptoms, including respiratory issues, skin reactions, or gastrointestinal disturbances.
Special Instructions
Preferred specimen collection in a red top tube, alternatively serum gel can be used. Post-centrifugation, 0.5 mL of the serum should be transferred into a plastic vial for submission. Samples should be kept refrigerated until testing.
Limitations
This test is limited to detecting IgE antibodies specific to Yogurt (Lactobacillus bulgaricus) only, and does not confirm the presence of other types of allergies or causes of autoimmune conditions. False positives or negatives may occur due to cross-reactivity with other allergenic substances or insufficient antibody levels. The result interpretation should consider patient history and other allergy tests.
