BCL2, technical only
Use
BCL2 is a member of a family of proteins involved in apoptosis with wide tissue distribution. In 90% of follicular lymphomas, a translocation occurs which juxtaposes the BCL2 gene at 18q21 to an immunoglobulin gene. This t(14;18) translocation can deregulate gene expression and results in BCL2 overexpression, which can be detected via IHC.
Special Instructions
Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Limitations
The test is limited to the technical component of BCL2 IHC staining without pathologist interpretation. Specimens must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus and cannot use other fixatives, which will result in rejection.
