E-cadherin, technical only
Use
E-cadherin (ECAD) is a transmembrane protein expressed on almost all epithelial cells and involved in cellular adhesion and polarity maintenance. Loss of E-cadherin expression is associated with gain of tumor cell motility and invasiveness. This marker may be used to differentiate invasive and in situ / invasive lobular carcinoma (-) from in situ / invasive ductal carcinoma (+) of the breast. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissues: Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides: Positively charged glass slides required to prevent background staining and prevent tissue loss. Slides should be left unbaked.
Limitations
Stained slides and unstained slides have indefinite stability under recommended storage conditions. Specimens not fixed in 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected. Turnaround times are subject to change based on biopharma protocol requirements.
