Mammaglobin, technical only
Use
Mammaglobin A expression is highly specific for tumors derived from the breast, female genital tract, and salivary glands. This test identifies the presence of Mammaglobin A, used primarily in identifying such tumors. It is for technical use only and does not include a pathologist interpretation or review.
Special Instructions
Fresh tissues should be fixed in formalin for a period between 6-72 hours, with 48-72 hours being preferred, and then transferred to 70% ethanol for long-term storage if necessary. Unstained slides should be placed on positively charged glass slides to prevent background staining and tissue loss, and should remain unbaked.
Limitations
The test detects Mammaglobin A expression, but does not provide quantitative results. It does not include a pathologist interpretation, which must be sourced separately. Specimens fixed in any medium other than 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected. This method is limited to the detection of Mammaglobin A in tissues, and does not include detection of other markers or proteins.
