MECOM 3q26 Rearrangement
Use
FISH test on hematologic specimens for detection of MECOM (3q26.2) gene rearrangement. MECOM rearrangement is a recurrent finding in acute myeloid leukemia. It is commonly associated with adverse prognosis in hematological malignancies and is crucial for diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.
Special Instructions
All attempts will be made to process and report samples received > 72 hours post-collection. Bone marrow is the sample of choice in most heme malignancies. Use a refrigerated (NOT FROZEN) gel pack in the shipment to protect from extreme temperatures.
Limitations
Turn-around times are subject to change based on biopharma protocol requirements. Final TATs will be specified in the biopharma study contract. Proper specimen handling is crucial, including adherence to stability, storage requirements, and rejection criteria. Clotted specimens, specimens exposed to extreme temperature, and specimens with insufficient cells may be rejected.
