Use
MelanA / MART1 is a melanocyte-specific cytoplasmic protein involved in the formation of stage II melanosomes. This marker is commonly used for the detection of melanoma. Technical component only. Pathologist read not included.
Special Instructions
Specimens may be fixed in formalin for 24-72 hours by collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol and stored at 2-8°C for longer term storage if needed. Samples must be tested within 3 months after placing in ethanol. Unstained slides should be positively charged to prevent background staining and tissue loss and should remain unbaked.
Limitations
Technical component only. Pathologist read not included. Specimens fixed in any fixative other than 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected.

Collection Instructions
Fixative should be at a 20:1 fixative to tissue ratio, 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF) for 6-72 hours (48-72 hours PREFERRED).
Storage Instructions
Store at 15°C to 25°C. Use a refrigerated gel pack to protect from extreme temperatures.
Causes for Rejection
Specimens fixed in any fixative other than 10% NBF or B plus will be rejected.
