Periodic Acid-Schiff Stain (Fungus)
Use
The PAS-fungus special stain is specifically designed to detect fungal organisms by highlighting fungal cell walls. It is a valuable diagnostic tool in pathology for diagnosing fungal infections, especially those caused by Candida, Aspergillus, and Histoplasma species.
Special Instructions
Fresh Tissue may be fixed in formalin for 6-72 hours at collection sites, then transferred to 70% ethanol for long-term storage if needed, although this is not preferred. Positively charged glass slides are required to prevent background staining and tissue loss.
Limitations
Specimens fixed in anything other than 10% neutral buffered formalin or B plus will be rejected. Turnaround times are subject to change based on biopharma protocol requirements and specified in biopharma study contracts.
