Use
Ziehl‑Neelsen Acid‑Fast Bacilli Stain is a special histochemical stain used to detect the presence of acid‑fast mycobacteria in tissue sections. It is particularly valuable for identifying organisms such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae in formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded tissue, aiding in the diagnosis of diseases caused by these pathogens.
Special Instructions
Performed as a special stain (immunohistochemistry category). Two levels of service: “Global” includes full stain and interpretation; “Tech‑Only” includes the stain without interpretation. The test is New York State approved.

Collection Instructions
A formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue block is preferred or one unbaked, unstained H&E‑stained slide (required) plus two to three positively charged unstained slides (all cut at 4‑5 microns) per test/antibody ordered.
Storage Instructions
Use cold pack for transport; cold pack should not be in direct contact with specimen. NYS clients provide date and time of collection.
