CD20 Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
Use
CD20 is expressed on mature B‑cells (after CD19 and CD10 expression and before CD21/22 and surface immunoglobulin) and on follicular dendritic cells. In disease, CD20 is positive in most B‑cell lymphomas (including some B‑ALL/LBL), lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, and dimly expressed in benign and neoplastic T‑cells. CD20 expression may be lost in rituximab‑treated B‑cell lymphomas.
Special Instructions
Use a formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue block as preferred specimen. Alternatively, submit one unbaked, unstained H&E slide (required) plus two to three positively charged unstained slides, all cut at 4‑5 microns. Block and slide identifiers must match specimen ID and requisition. For transport, use a cold pack not in direct contact with specimen; New York State clients should include date and time of collection.
