E‑Cadherin
Use
E‑Cadherin is an adhesion protein expressed in epithelial lineage cells. It is positive in glandular epithelium and adenocarcinomas of lung, gastrointestinal tract, and ovary, and some thyroid carcinomas. In breast carcinomas, E‑Cadherin distinguishes ductal versus lobular subtypes—lobular carcinomas show complete or near complete loss of membrane staining, whereas ductal carcinomas show uniform membrane expression. Thus, immunohistochemical detection of E‑Cadherin is a useful diagnostic tool for differentiating ductal and lobular carcinomas of the breast.
