Use
Human Herpes Virus 8 (HHV8) is the likely etiological agent of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) and is present in all cases. The virus encodes a latent nuclear antigen (LANA), which is the product of the viral gene ORF73. HHV8 has also been identified in multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) and primary effusion lymphoma (PEL).

Collection Instructions
A formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue block is preferred or one unbaked, unstained slide for H&E (required) plus two to three positively charged unstained slides (4‑5 microns). Block and slide identifiers must match specimen ID on requisition.
Storage Instructions
Use cold pack for transport; do not let pack contact specimen directly. For NYS clients, provide date and time of collection.
