Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS)
Use
Special histochemical stain (Periodic Acid Schiff, PAS) used in immunohistochemistry for detection of glycogen, mucin, basement membranes, fungal organisms, and other PAS‑positive tissue components in formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded (FFPE) tissue specimens.
Special Instructions
This is a special stain (IHC) test. FFPE tissue block is the preferred specimen; alternatively, one unbaked, unstained H&E slide (required) plus two to three positively charged unstained slides, all cut at 4–5 microns, may be submitted. Block and slide identifiers must match specimen labeling on the requisition. Use of a cold pack is required for transport (not in direct contact with specimen); New York State clients must provide date and time of collection.
