Antimicrobial Combination Synergy, 2 Drugs
Use
This test determines the synergistic effect between two antimicrobial agents against a given bacterial isolate, helping clinicians identify combinations that exhibit enhanced inhibitory activity beyond that of individual drugs. Useful for guiding therapy in cases of resistant or difficult-to-treat bacterial infections.
Special Instructions
Requires pure culture of previously identified bacteria. Submission must indicate organism ID and the two drugs to be tested; missing information may delay processing. The isolate may be submitted on an agar slant, plate, or bacterial transport swab.
Limitations
Not FDA cleared or approved; developed and validated by Quest Diagnostics under CLIA. Viability of the culture is critical; frozen specimens are unacceptable. Test results depend on isolate quality and precise drug identification; transport conditions and frozen specimens may compromise viability.
