Borrelia Species DNA, Qualitative Real‑Time PCR, Miscellaneous
Also known as: Lyme, Borreliosis, Tick borne
Use
This test is intended for the qualitative detection of Borrelia DNA in whole blood, CSF, or synovial fluid and can support the clinical diagnosis of Borreliosis. A negative result does not rule out infection; appropriate serology testing may be clinically warranted. It detects Borrelia species DNA irrespective of serostatus. Based on related announcements, if Borrelia species DNA is detected, reflex testing to speciate Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia miyamotoi may be performed at additional charge.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
A negative PCR result does not rule out infection because Borrelia DNA may be transient in blood or undetectable depending on sample timing. Performance characteristics have been validated under CLIA but the assay is not FDA‑approved.
